It’s like he never left. Adam Lambert returned to the American Idol stage to perform his new song “Welcome to the Show” on Thursday, March 17. He was joined by Swedish singer-songwriter Laleh, who cowrote the track.

“I’m gonna let them stare / They feel like me out there / So welcome to the show,” the collaborators belted. “Bring on all the lights / Let it shine on you / We’re together here tonight.”

Lambert, 34, released the tune just hours before attending the live show on Fox. The single is his first since his third LP, The Original High, in 2015.

“Laleh — what an amazing songwriter,” Lambert told host Ryan Seacrest on Thursday. “She is so talented, and we just wrote a banger and I’m so pumped.”

Lambert placed second in season 8 of American Idol in 2009, losing to Arkansas native Kris Allen. However, Lambert went on to have a massively successful career. He tours with Queen and is known for hits such as “For Your Entertainment” and “Whataya Want From Me.”

The rocker also branched out into acting. Lambert guest-starred in Glee from 2013 to 2014 and is currently filming the TV movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
